MILPIRRI Workshops

The next Milpirri is starting to stir and it all begins with a month long program of youth dance workshops in Lajamanu. Creative Director, Steve Wanta Jampijinpa Patrick and community elders are in discussion to clear and define the themes for the fourth Milpirri. With three successful performances behind it, Milpirri has emerged as one of the most exciting indigenous-initiated ventures in Australia. The workshops will be lead by Tracks Co Artistic Director David McMicken, with Nick Power, Caleb Japanangka Patrick and Jess Devereux and will have a public showing on Friday October 28 2011.

Milpirri has developed out of a relationship between Tracks Dance Company and the Lajamanu community begun in 1988. Milpirri embraces and celebrates what it means to be Warlpiri, but more so, what it means to be an Australian.
