Rukshana began dancing Indian Classical dance at the age of five and gave her first public performance at six in front of an audience of 10,000 people. She migrated to Darwin Australia at the age of seven and continued her classical training and performance work. For the last 18 years she has continued to perform as well as teach and choreograph her own work.

In 1999-2000 Rukshana took on the role as cultural coordinator and dance instructor for the Indian Cultural Society of the NT. During this time she choreographed many original dance works. Her main focus is on experimenting with fusions between traditional, folk and contemporary dance forms.

Rukshana joined Tracks Dance Inc in 1998 as a performer. She has performed in various Tracks productions including Interactions, THE LAND THE CROSS AND THE LOCTUS, TWO FOLD JOURNEY, RIVERS OF THE UNDERGROUND (S) and LOCAL. She also choreographed for these shows. Rukshana was a Tracks’ Committee of Management member from 1998-2002 when she moved to Brisbane.
