Founded in 1985, ‘Sama’
means peace in Sinhala and Tamil. Sama Ballet preserves
and presents intact traditional dance forms while experimenting
with new forms and ideas. They promote peace and communal,
religious and social harmony amongst all people through
the performing arts. |

Ajith Amarasiri has been a traditional, modern, and contemporary
dancer in the traditional Kandyan and Sri Lankan Contemporary
Dance styles since the age of 10 years. He studied traditional
ritual dancing under Guru Ranbarana Mahakehelwala and
was a pupil of Prof. Mudiyanse Disanayake. A founding
member of Sama Ballet in ’85, he is current Artistic
Director and Choreographer. |

Prasanna Rupathilake
has been a traditional and contemporary drummer since
the age of six, first training under his father (from
a Traditional generation of Drums and Ritual Dance).
He studied traditional drums, music and dance under
Guru Piyasara Shilpadipathi and Ravi Banduvidyapathi
where he learnt to play some western instruments. A
member of
since ‘89 he is currently
the leader of the State Dance Troupe. |

Matotage Hemachandra
is a traditional Low Country Dancer and has worked with
Sama ballet Troupe since 1994. He has performed and
participating in the cultural program in many countries
around the world. He is a very talented fire eater. |

Dinesh Alwis Attanayake
is a traditional Low Country Dancer and has performed
with Sama ballet Troupe since 2000, performing in France,
Italy, India and Japan. He has participated in the Folklore
Cultural Festival. |
