Ken Conway |
| |
Ken Conway came to Darwin in 1969 and
in 1972 took a short break from being a lawyer to
help
establish Brown’s Mart, an historic building,
as a community performance space. |
| |
Since then he has been Executive Officer
of Brown’s Mart Community Arts, established and
toured the Territory with a Theatre in Education Company,
presented activities and performances in remote communities
with Kids Convoy and continued to work as an actor and
director – mostly with Darwin Theatre Company – in both
professional and volunteer capacity when his work with
Brown’s Mart permitted. |
| |
He is a Churchill fellow and recipient
of the Ros Bower Award, a national annual award in recognition
of sustained commitment to community arts. |
| |
He has assisted in establishing a number
of local arts organisations and projects, and Brown’s
Mart has hosted programs which led to the development
of organisations such as the Northern Territory’s
Writer’s Centre, Corrugated Iron Youth Arts, The
Multicultural Arts Office, Darwin Fringe Festival…and
Tracks. |
