In 2000 Tracks employed its first Dance Animateur with a focus on Multi Cultural Youth. Since 2003, Tracks has since employed a Dance Animateur whose key task is to manage a core of Youth
Dance Leaders, (chosen by audition and may change from year to year). These young dancers from mixed cultural backgrounds bring to Tracks a rich array of dance styles. They are mentored/trained in dance, choreography, direction and production and they perform in major productions. As role models, the Youth Dance Leaders lead and ‘train’ aspiring young dancers when they are needed in major Tracks productions. They are often key performers in other shows. |

Young people drive the marketing of the youth specific performances, often performing short promotional performances in places young people congregate, such as shopping malls and markets, and Ignite was performed on the roof of the Casuarina Shopping Centre, heavily used by young people in Darwin. Slick promotional material was produced and the young people spoke in radio and TV advertisements and interviews. The result for Ignite was 7,706 (80% youth) people attending the performances. This is nearly 9% of Darwin’s population and 58% of Darwin’s 15 - 25 year olds. |
