    Territory Day

Tracks was invited by Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre (in Katherine, Northern Territory of Australia) to create "K-Town Dance Massive", a large-scale community dance event to showcase and celebrate the Katherine Region’s unique arts and cultural talent. With a change of date from September to Territory Day (July 1st) Tracks Dance was not able to fulfil the larger direction of the project. However, we were able to make three trips to Katherine with Tim Newth, Kelly Beneforti, and David McMicken, and were able to support the amazing team, led by Bec Reid.

Katherine residents were promised an event to remember. Artistic Director Bec Reid said she believed the event would leave Katherinites “walking away feeling proud to be a Territorian and of their role in moulding a culture rich in diversity”. The official party was held at the Katherine Showground. After the official flag raising ceremony, K-Town Dance Massive ensued, then once the dust settled on the dancing, patrons looked skyward as the town’s biggest fireworks display marked July 1 with a bang.

This Territory Day event was proudly made possible by the Northern Territory Government, Festivals NT, and Department of Defence. Special thanks goes to event partners Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Art and Culture Centre and Katherine Town Council.

A massive thank you to everyone that helped make K-Town Dance Massive such an amazing event.
