Across the Year - 2024
Cloud Split: A Collective Ode to the Sky, is a split program of incremental developments, rituals and performative acts. Featuring groups, indoor performances and masses of dancing people spilling over one another in the open environment, with multiple emergences, for local audiences across a year. At the centre, is a dance work of stamina and ritual.
Ranging from an intimate and intense duet performed in the studio during dry season, to a larger languid group work in the open environment, a mass of movers seeking to rumble, pause, stretch and enmesh in the Build Up. Exploring the physical potential of unpredictable phenomena and the relationship between being reflective and projective in dance, with each other, in life and with nature.
The Top End may not have land mountains, but we have imposing cloud terrain in the sky - during the tropical Build-up and Wet Season our big skies dominate our psyche. Cloud Split explores our emotional relationship with the skies, the water and weather cycles, and dance as public art. A lush, vivid fantasy-scape of movement, sound and visuals.
