Michael Grant QC
Michael Grant QC was appointed Chief Justice of The Northern Terrritory in 2016. He previously had held appointment as Solicitor-General for the Northern Territory since September 2007. Prior to that time, he was a barrister in private practice and was appointed as a Queen's Counsel in 2006 – the first Territory-born practitioner to be commissioned as a QC in the Northern Territory. His practice has involved appellate work at all levels, including appearances before the High Court of Australia.
Mr Grant holds a Bachelor of Laws degree with first class honours conferred by the University of Queensland. He completed articles of clerkship with the Northern Territory Attorney-General's Department, and then worked as a solicitor-advocate with the Crown Solicitor’s Office. In 1998, he was appointed as Director of Litigation with the Northern Territory Attorney-General's Department and spent various periods acting as its Chief Executive Officer before joining the private bar. He has also lectured in Law at the Charles Darwin University and served as President of the Health Professional Review Tribunal.
