Our Local Hero

Our Local Hero

Tracks is proud to announce that David Taylor our long serving board member won the Local Hero Award for the Australian of the Year, NT Division. He was our inaugural Chair Person (1999) and still stands as a member. David was involved in the establishment of the company’s constitution, first Committee of Management, and the Friends of Tracks.

Over the many years, David has also made costumes, performed in several shows, starred in a film by Elka Kerkhofs in our performance of Rust, providing hospitality and soul throughout. There is hardly a cast member in any of our shows who has not tasted his delights as he arrives at a rehearsal with delicious treats. Tracks was proud to utilise David’s work through Knock About Chefs, for our Opening Night Catering. This connection with another community organisation

Local Hero acknowledges the difference people make in their community. David Taylor was named the Local Hero for his work as a mentor to homeless people and advocate of the arts. During the past six years Mr Taylor has provided 200 meals each day for Darwin's homeless and he runs the St Vincent de Paul Society's Knockabout Chefs program. The program trains and mentors homeless and at risk people, refugees and those with learning difficulties, in commercial cookery.

All the award recipients will head to Canberra on Australia Day next year where the national winners will be announced.
