In response to the ongoing challenge of accessible space for the development of dance practice, Tracks is offering an opportunity for Northern Territory dance artists to use our dance studio, free of charge, to work on contemporary choreographic development, either through research or development. We also host dance artists who have a connection to the company.

Culminating in a showing and a forum to discuss and evaluate the processes involved. See photos of the showing.

Residents

Chloe Lauverjon

Exploring how dance can be mixed with other mediums: Drawing, photography, film and voice work for example. Each week I will explore a new medium. Collaborating with Penelope Paton she is interested in collaborating and exploring these themes from the "technological" angle and I am interested in exploring from the "movement" angle. There will of course be moments of crossover. We will invite other people to collaborate with who may be interested in exploring movement or technology or even both and explore how to draw a bridge between different mediums and dance. As a theme to focus on a Dance Revolution will be our starting point.

Jess Ford

After an Intensive Dance Training in NZ with Janet Jackson choreographer, Parris Goebel, I have returned to Darwin with a fiery motivation to create pieces that has a focus on empowering the Goddess Warrior in all of us, specifically young girls. My main focus is working with young Indigenous mob, out on remote communities, around town, and at The Youth Shak in Casuarina. My aim will be to spend time processing and creating stories through dance.

Aaron Lim

I would like to work on two major areas. Firstly on developing my "texture" styles working on soft and sharp movements which was explored briefly in Dual. Secondly, I would like to explore different approaches to b*boying to discover new movements and ways to tell stories through breaking.

Lizzi Webb

Working with dancer Kelly Beneforti. "Working with small lights attached to the body, the dance explores the ideas of existing points of light that can be turned on and off, moved and shaped; focusing that light to highlight specific moments; and (as a secondary outcome) influencing surrounding landscapes/environments through incidental and deliberate use of shadows. The nature of this concept allows for diverse and personal interpretation of light on one individual and what they can and choose to do with it." - Lizzi Webb This residency led to a performance in May by Lizzi and Kelly at Northern Centre for Contemporary Art for the Artmart Exhibition opening.

Jenelle Saunders

I'd like to undertake a studio residency to create an intentional time, place and space to dedicate to my dance practice - including work on developing a couple of dance ideas (Slow Dance and make the dance you want to see) and also collaborate artistically (initially with Kate Mornane as co-creator to work on Slow Dance concept).
