Milpirri Documentary

Milpirri documentary to be screened on NITV at 7.30pm on Saturday 1st November
The documentary film "Milpirri: Winds of Change" will be screened on NITV on November 1st, to coincide with this year’s event which is being held in Lajamanu.

In 2011, Tracks Dance Company approached PAW Media to see if they could document the Milpirri story. Key members of the Lajamanu community had for many years talked about wanting the Milpirri message to be more broadly heard. The community's remote location and limited visitors' accommodation has meant that only a small group of non-community members have been able to see the performance in Lajamanu. The documentary offered a way of letting a wider audience understand why Milpirri came to be and to better understand some of the key themes and ideas that underpin the performance.

Created over the past three years the film follows Wanta Jampijinpa Patrick. The film highlights the relationship between the Tracks Dance Company and the remote Warlpiri community of Lajamanu as they prepare for the 2012 Milpirri Festival, an exciting cross-cultural event. Milpirri clouds bring rain from the collision of opposites: the Milpirri event reminds us all, that to find our way ‘back home,’ we need to listen to ‘ngurra’, ‘home’ – the country we share.

Produced by PAW (Pintubi Anmajerre Warlpiri) Media and Communications in association People Pictures.
Directed by Wanta Jampijinpa and Stewart Carter. Edited by Cath South.
