Warluwariji (Mothers’ Exhortation)
Dance Story
Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunties, uninitiated boys.
The mothers give the young boys their final exhortation: “Walk in the steps of your older brother and he will lead you in the path of your father. Do not put your hand carelessly down a goanna hole; it may look like good food, but really it may be a snake or a scorpion.” The kurdu, (uninitiated boys), lie down. The Mothers and Aunties hit them and then hand them on to the men for business. A brother then takes the boy to his brother in law, (Panji), to be looked after.

Lajamanu Women
Since 1988 the Lajamanu women (in particular the Yawulyu ceremonial dancers) have guided and supported the youth projects taking place in Lajamanu and Darwin. They have also performed in many Tracks shows, notably Lajamanu Kurra Karna Yani, the Fierce projects, Lipstick and Ochre, and The Cook, the Queen and the Kelly.
