Witi (Leafy Poles) / Make Good Choices

Description of Dance

The boys lying down are the young trees, the senior boys lift them to become strong trees. A strong tree can withstand floods, fires and strong winds. Witi is about having two choices and making the right choice. We see several duets representing the two choices. We also focussed on the idea that a tree stands tall and is proud of itself, proud to represent culture.

Witi (Leafy Poles) / Make Good Choices

Description of Dance

The dance is about making choices.  The dancers have to walk, point, and face certain directions or colour corners. Some of the movements are set by the dancers' colour group and some directions are up to the dancers. Once they have made the choice, the dancer must commit to it.

Men's Witi Dance

The dances performed by the youth explore themes that are drawn from the same ceremonial concepts that are seen in the adult dances.
